This learning objective uses command term DISCUSS meaning that the topic could be an SAQ or an ERQ and use any of the IB command terms.
The cognitive process that we are going to be considering is MEMORY.
You will need to explain to the examiner which SOCIAL and/or CULTURAL FACTORS you have decided to focus on. You will need to make sure that you have a list of studies that you will call upon to illustrate your factors in an SAQ and use in your AO3 in an ERQ.
If you recall we looked at some socio-cultural influences on memory when we studied stereotyping in the SCLOA.
And now for something slightly different…
http://www.livescience.com/health/080118-culture-brain.html This is a fascinating and very useful article about how culture affects performance on a perceptual task; it uses fMRI brain scans to detect different areas of the brain that are activated during different types of task and so can also be used for the learning outcomes about the use of technology to research cognitive processes. it is the perfect article for showing links between all three levels of analysis! However, it does not focus on the cognitive process of memory but instead on the cognitive process of perception so tread carefully.
